Why is Bush Upset? It's a "C" Average!

"And to the C students–I say, you, too, can be President of the United States."
George Bush speaking at the 2001 Yale Commencement Ceremony

The San Francisco Chronicle reported today (Bush plans to renominate 20 as judges, December 24, 2004) that according to Justice Department records, the Senate confirmed "204 of Bush's 260 nominations to the federal district and appellate courts." This works out to 78% or a high C; C plus or maybe even a B minus by some. He's improved!

By the way, according to the same article there are only currently 35 vacancies in these courts not 56 so some of the benches that had nominees declined by the Senate have been filled by other new Bush nominees.

"Being lectured by the president on fiscal responsibility is a little bit like Tony Soprano talking to me about law and order in this country. "

John Kerry at the 3rd Presidential Debate

President Bush thought it was a great idea and in an unusual use of reality looked for the person closest to Tony Soprano he could find to provide law and order advice -- Bernard Kerik. It is reported by the New York Daily News,

"When he headed the city's jails, Bernard Kerik became deeply entangled with a New Jersey construction company long under fire for its alleged mob ties, a Daily News investigation found.

"Kerik's troubling connection to the company, Interstate Industrial, began in the fall of 1998.

"Charges that Interstate, based in Clifton, N.J., is controlled by organized crime resurfaced last month when a mob turncoat, Anthony Rotondo, testified in Manhattan Federal Court that Interstate paid protection money to the Gambino crime family."

Write the House Committee on the Judiciary

Representative John Coyners has asked for our help as patriotic Americans. He has asked us to write to the House Committee on the Judiciary to insist that they fulfill their responsibilities as our elected representative and hold full hearings on the 2004 Elections. He'd like to get a million emails. Here's a copy of what I wrote:

As a patriotic American, I insist that the House Judiciary Committee hold full hearings on the 2004 Election. Failure to do so would be destructive of our rights, pertaining to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These rights are granted not by the government but by our Creator, and are being undermined through willful disenfranchisement of the American people.

If the Committee on the Judiciary does not investigate the 2004 Elections and shirks its duties, we the people have the right, and even responsibility, as declared in the Declaration of Independence "to alter or to abolish [the government], and to institute new Government."

I am certain the committee will act as patriotic Americans and will do their duty.

Respectfully Submitted,
Michael Brent

Oppose Alberto Gonzales Part II

I emailed my senators about Mr. Gonzales's nomination to be Attorney General. Here's a copy of my senators' responses:

December 13, 2004

Dear Michael:

Thank you for sharing your views on the
fitness of Alberto Gonzales for the position of
U.S. Attorney General. I have noted your strong
opposition to this nominee. I appreciate your

President Bush's nominees and opposed others.
In each case, I have carefully considered the
nominee's qualifications for the position. I
intend to continue evaluating each nominee based
on what they have done and said. I will support
nominees that will implement our laws, balance
competing interests wisely, and serve the best
interests of our citizens.

Dear Mr. Brent:

Thank you for your letter regarding President Bush's
nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be Attorney General of the
United States. I will closely review his nomination.

As a general rule, I wait until after I review a nominee's
entire record before making a decision about the nominee. Many of
the issues you raised about Judge Gonzales's record also concern
me. Please be assured that I will raise these important issues with
Judge Gonzales during his nomination hearing.

Again, thank you for letter. I hope you will continue to
keep in touch. If you have any further comments, please contact
my Washington, D.C. staff at (202) 224-3841.

Happy Holidays!

Write your Senator -- Oppose Al Gonzales for Attorney General

Al Gonzales doesn't believe in our American values. He openly opposes the United States Constitution. This man is a danger to our freedom.

Here's an easy form letter to assist you in writing to your state's Senators, insisting they do not provide their consent to the President for Al Gonzales to serve as Attorney General.

Dear Senator ___________________:

After careful consideration it is my view as a patriotic American, and as a constituent, to insist you oppose Mr. Gonzales for Attorney General. Mr. Gonzales has proven himself, through his writings, to be anti-American. Specifically he shows himself to be opposed to the protections enjoyed by Americans and non-Americans embodied in the United States Constitution. While these rights are enumerated in the Constitution, I remind you that these rights, among them "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness," were granted to us not by the government but, as stated in our Declaration of Independence, by our Creator.

If you support Mr. Gonzales you will approve of the government, in the words of Thomas Jefferson, becoming "destructive of these ends." If Mr. Gonzales becomes Attorney General, espousing his anti-American beliefs as national policy, it is declared in the Declaration of Independence that there exists a "Right of the People to alter or to abolish [the government], and to institute new Government."

As one of our state's representatives in the United States Senate, you must oppose Mr. Gonzales and his assaults on us as Americans by voting not to grant your consent for him to serve as Attorney General. In the event of his selection, it is your responsibility as our elected official to work towards altering or abolishing the Bush government and towards instituting a new government.

Submitted Respectfully,
